The Grooming Team is lead by an 8 year vetrain and snow forecaster, Dave Jenkins (Eden). The team consists of 24 people dedicated to the idea that good grooming makes for great skiing.
The grooming plan calls for the nights of Sun, Tues, Thurs, Friday, and Sat so the skiing is ready first thing the next morning.
This year the team returns many vetrains, so expectations are high for great skiing conditions. Volunteers groom twice a month and do their work mostly in the dark, after dusk or before dawn. This allows the snow time to set up and creates an an optimal surface for gliding.
We have been fortunate to grow our grooming equipment over the past 8 years. This season we will operate two Skankic Superwide Track (SWT) snowmobiles together with Yellowstone Track System (YTS) Ginzu Groomers.
These machines are more like tractors pulling harrows, than sport machines high marking in the back country. Wide tracks and low gearing allow for slow speeds and the traction necessary to obtain a fine skiing surface.
In addition, we operate a Bombardier 275 snow-cat with tiller and (2) classic pans to roll the park after big storm events and heavy use.
There is a certain Zen that develops out on the grooming route, especially under the moon light. Ther is a satisfaction knowing that what we do is to etch poetry into the snow for the eager skiers of the morning. Our efforts are fleeting, but the memories and experience for the skers are timeless.
